RSGM-27MYQ Review, 2K Gaming Monitor

In anticipation of eventually getting a current graphics card, I wanted to upgrade my monitors from the curved 1080p monitors that I currently have. My requirements were that it was better than my current monitors in both refresh rate and resolution, that it supports displayport, and that it is VESA compatible.

In comes the RockSoul RSGM-27MYQ. This monitor is an affordable 1440p, 144Hz monitor, but how does it stack up?

First, Let’s talk about aesthetics and movement. While the RGB ring on the back screams gamer, the rest of the monitor is a bit more subtle. With it’s matte black finish, thin bezels, and minimal aggressive lines, it would otherwise be suitable for both a gamer setup and a home office. This monitor only provides tilt adjustment, no swivel or height at this price point.

As far as gaming, it is a great gaming monitor for its price. 1ms response time is especially nice, but so are its range of colors. You could get some ghosting with darker colors, however, this is not something I noticed often enough.

Image quality wise, it covers a good amount of sRGB. That being said though… it’s a VA panel, so not the best for those working with colors. It is also a curved display, so don’t expect the viewing angles to be spectacular. As for glare, it handled sun glare from my window well, as I could just adjust my blinds slightly when it became bad (as opposed to closing the blinds completely or moving my monitor) .

One good thing about Rocksoul is their customer service. Originally, one of my monitors had experienced an issue and I needed to return it. Their RMA process was relatively painless, with me just being able to write an email and get a same day response and a RMA number. The technical support specialist was friendly and offered some troubleshooting steps, and had actually paid attention to the troubleshooting that I had dome prior to contacting them (shocking nowadays).

Overall, this is a great budget 1440p gaming monitor for the average gamer, but if you’re looking to get competitive, you may just want to spend more money for a better monitor.
